I had the incredible opportunity to participate in a dynamic panel discussion at the World Habitat Day event in Querétaro, Mexico, alongside some truly inspiring global youth leaders.
It was an honor to share the stage with remarkable individuals like Lenin Andrés Zambrano Zambrano, an artist using his music to preach change in his community in Ecuador, Milagros Costabel from Uruguay, a passionate advocate for people with disabilities who continues to break barriers despite been visually impaired, Professor Carina Arvizu Machado and the Moderator Mariana Alejandra Nogueda García.
During the roundtable, I focused on the importance of mentorship as a critical tool for empowering young people. I emphasized that mentorship allows youth to learn directly from those who have gone before them, gaining valuable insights, skills, and perspectives. In the context of sustainable urban development, mentorship can guide marginalized youth, helping them navigate challenges and unlock opportunities that drive personal growth and contribute to inclusive cities. By investing in mentorship, we can ensure that the next generation of leaders has the support and knowledge needed to bring about real change in their communities.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to UN-Habitat for providing this platform for such meaningful exchanges, and to the organizers and the Government of Querétaro for their warm hospitality. It was a privilege to be part of this global dialogue on how youth can shape the future of our cities beyond 2030.
As we wrap up the World Habitat Day 2024 celebrations, I’m filled with hope and motivation. It was a successful event filled with diverse ideas, rich discussions, and concrete strategies to create better, more inclusive urban futures for all. I look forward to continuing the conversation and working towards solutions that empower youth and foster sustainability in urban spaces worldwide.
