I recently had the privilege of participating in the International Winter School in Sonipat, Haryana India. The winter school was organised by the Centre for Sustainability at the Jindal School Of Government and Public Policy, in partnership with the Global Solutions Initiative Berlin and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The theme of the winter school was “From Extraction to Intersecting”, which focuses on reversing extractive processes through a transition to circularity using the tools of a creative economy and striving for inclusive socio-ecological systems.
During the winter school, I joined a team of young researchers and entrepreneurs to learn about the GIZ Organic Waste Management Project and its connection to global development issues. We visited several institutions, including the E[co]work – for safe & inclusive e-waste management dismantling site, Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) in Delhi, the GIZ India, and the Indo-German Solar Energy Partnership Facility, to gain a first-hand understanding of how waste management solutions are implemented in practice. Based on our experiences, we made recommendations on how to address some challenges and opportunities of waste management, with a focus on India as a case study. One key take-away was the importance of educating citizens on proper waste disposal and promoting the need for waste segregation in households and businesses to reduce landfill waste and increase recycling.
I also had the opportunity to meet with the Nigerian Ambassador to India, His Excellency Ambassador Ahmed Sule, to discuss potential investment opportunities and collaborations between Nigeria and India. I believe that there is much to learn from the successes of the G20 Indonesia Presidency and that opportunities for Asia-Africa cooperation, such as Nigeria’s invitation as an observer country to the G20 India presidency, should be pursued.
I am grateful to the local organising team at Jindal Global University (JGU), my mentor Dr. Nicolas J.A. Buchoud, Ole Spies
Professor Millindo Chakrabarti, Rakesh Kasturi and all the instructors and lecturers at the International Winter School for providing such a valuable and impactful experience.
To my new friends who made my stay at Jindal memorable samridh sindhu, Kunjal Gawas and Anuraj Singh I say thank you.
I am looking forward to contributing to a successful World Policy Summit in Berlin, Germany in May 2023. #internationalwinterschool#intersecting#youngglobalchangers#G20india#G20indiapresidency
