The UN-Habitat 11th World Urban Forum(WUF11) was held from the 26th to 1st of July, 2022 in Katowice, Poland. The World Urban Forum is a premier biannual global conference on sustainable urbanization. The event gathered stakeholders from Local, Regional and National Governments across the world to discus on the topic “Transforming our Cities for a Better Urban Future”.
Edo state youth leader, Hon. Daniel Uwadia represented Nigeria at Parliamentarians Round-table, speaks on how parliamentarians can support effective rural-urban linkages and the transformation of cities for a better urban future.
Daniel, the Minority leader of the Nigerian Youth parliament 4th Session was invited by the United Nations Habitat to speak at the Parliamentarians Round-table where he shared the stage alongside prominent world leaders; Hon. Jorge Horacio Ferraresi – Minister of Territorial Development and Habitat, Argentina, Hon. Olga Zulema Adams – Federal Deputy, Mexico, Hon. Hanna Gill-Piatek – Parliamentarian, Poland, Hon. Jagdeep Singh Deo – Parliamentarian, Malaysia, Hon. Prof. Sahar Attia – Parliamentarian, Egypt Hon. Gangalal Tuladhar – Member of the Constituent Assembly, Nepal, His Excellency Professor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o the Governor of Kisumu County, Kenya and a host of others. The event gathered stakeholders from Local, Regional and National Gorvenments across the world to discus on the topic “Transforming our Cities for a Better Urban Future”.
Daniel while speaking on how parliamentarians can support effective rural-urban linkages and the transformation of cities for a better urban future cited the achievements of the Obaseki led government in rural-urban linkages and called on more countries to adapt solutions that seek to restore rural settlements and make them more suitable for living in order to reduce rapid urban migrations. He added that development in rural areas must cater for basic necessities such as road network creation, electricity, primary health Centers, recreational facilities among others.
The event which came to an end on the 1st of July, 2022 saw submissions made by various speakers across all the sessions tabulated to form a general report that would guide sustainable urban development for the next 2 years among member countries.
