I was thrilled to visit the Federal Ministry of Material Research and Testing (Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung) in Berlin once again, accompanied by the Nigerian Delegation. It was a pleasure to reconnect with my good friend, Dr. Wolfram Schmidt. During our visit, we toured the facility and were introduced to cutting-edge technologies and processes, including the proposed hydrogen energy stations and the 3D concrete printer. Witnessing BAM’s dedication to quality research and innovation was truly inspiring.
The highlight of our visit was the workshop addressing the construction industry’s challenges in the era of climate change. We engaged in meaningful discussions on initiatives related to the Global Consensus on Sustainability in the Built Environment. The environmental hazards posed by current concrete technologies cannot be overlooked. With rapid construction and urbanization, it is more critical now than ever to adopt greener and cleaner building material technologies.
I firmly believe that more countries, especially in Africa, could greatly benefit from investing in such research. This would not only help the environment but also promote sustainability in development. We eagerly anticipate welcoming Dr. Wolfram and his team to Nigeria in the nearest future, to continue this important dialogue in creating a better future for construction in Nigeria.
